Horizon Europe

SHDS – Smarter Heterogeneous Data Sets

Programme / Framework: FED4FIRE

Project Overview

SHDS addressed the growing challenge of managing large and heterogeneous healthcare datasets, including electronic health records, medical images, genomic-style data sources, sensor data, and wearable-generated information. The project explored how open-source and cloud-based technologies could support the creation of a reliable health data platform based on FHIR standards, while improving automation, scalability, and performance for healthcare applications.

Syndesis Contribution

  • Developed and validated an iwelli Tengu health platform based on open-source and cloud technologies
  • Set up an instantiation of the HAPI FHIR EHR platform
  • Developed software scripts to automate data analysis and image storage workflows
  • Implemented a cloud storage federation model integrating multiple storage providers and external APIs
  • Performed comparative performance testing against the Google Cloud FHIR platform under different system loads and user scenarios
